Receipt
Description
Receipts are documents which record payment due in a transaction between two parties. Generally, this document would list the two parties, what the receipt was in regards to, and the place of transaction. It would usually have a seal denoting the official nature of the document. This was often used to record debts.
Receipts are used in financial examinations of the medieval era to keep track of markets, wealth, and financial histories. For instance, the surviving receipts of Henry III which we have are all from his wardrobe, and we have receipts that tell us the increase of interest in the markets of the Middle Ages. We use receipts today for most monetary transactions.
