Ordinance
Description
Ordinances are laws or practices that an actor wants passed, often on a local level. This document records proposed laws/practices that came from meetings or were otherwise not written down. Often ordinances have to do with appointments, provisions, and property. They list the actor and the motions they want passed, as well as where they proposed these motions.
Ordinances have a place in law writing and tracking the implementation of laws throughout history. Many medieval scholars look at specific types of ordinances, like wartime ordinances, to get an idea of what was outside the norm. These still have a place in law today, especially on a local or community level where smaller circles of government can address problems within their sphere.
