Description
A mandate is a type of document very similar to a writ and involves a powerful institution requiring that a deed be performed or cease being performed. A mandate is a Generally, documents which originated in England are called writs, whereas papal or European documents are termed mandates.
A precept is a type of mandate/writ in which an individual demands the action of a subordinate party. Within the context of the Atlas of a Medieval Life project, a precept often describes the king or bishop directing their subordinate bailiffs to perform a particular action.
