Letter of Proxy
Description
A letter of proxy is a document granting one party to act on behalf of another. In the Atlas of a Medieval Life project, a bailiff would act as a proxy for, or representative of, the king in Hereford, and Roger de Breynton was often appointed as a proxy to travel on behalf of the bishop of Hereford. This type of document remains in common use, often authorizing one person to make financial decisions on behalf of another.
