Description
The Register of Thomas de Lisle, Bishop of Ely, contains the documents relating to the tenure of Thomas de Lisle as the Bishop of Ely, 1345-1361. These documents include memoranda, writs, letters, and more. The original documents have been held in the Cambridge University Library since the mid-20th century, with different collections of Ely documents moving to the library from 1954-1970. Lisle’s Register is combined with that of his predecessor Montacute in the library. While Lisle’s Register has been used to study the Black Death among the population of Ely, it has not been transcribed or digitized, and remote access is unavailable. In 1891, then-current Bishop of Ely Alwyne Compton printed a summary of the documents relating to the diocese, and a scan of his book is available online.
