Description
The Register of Adam Orleton, Bishop of Worcester, contains the documents relating to Orleton’s tenure as Bishop of Worcester, 1327-1333. These documents include ordination lists, inductions, dismissal and exemption letters, bulls of translation and commissions from the bishop, presentations made to the bishop and miscellaneous material. The register includes documents that are not always recorded by scribes and gives a detailed view into the activities of Adam de Orleton as bishop. The register also gives insight into the activity and work of Orleton’s familia and how many different scribes were working under him.
Roy Martin Haines, a British historian and professor of medieval history, transcribed the original Latin documents and added English summaries in a modern edition, published in 1979 by the Worcester Historical Society and the Historical Manuscripts Commission. The modern resource also provides context and information about the register in its introduction. This resource has been digitized and is widely available online.
