Description
The Liber Albus of the Priory of Worcester is the letter book of the Prior and Chapter of Worcester, and contains documents dating from various times in the 14th and 15th centuries. The Atlas of a Medieval Life project utilizes the volume containing documents from 1301-1337, but the original Liber Albus is by no means restricted to that date range. The book gets its name from its white binding - its 20th century editor James Maurice Wilson notes that it was bound in white sycamore before a 19th-century rebinding in white vellum. It has always been held in the Worcester Cathedral Muniment Room, but Wilson’s edition, which contains summaries of the original documents, is available online.
