Description
The Registrum Thome de Cantilupo, also known as the Hereford Register Cantilupe, contains the documents produced during Thomas Cantilupe’s years as Bishop of Hereford Cathedral, from 1275-1282. These documents include letters, ordinations, grants, and memoranda. The manuscript is currently held at the Herefordshire Archive and Records Centre under reference number AL19/1, and has not been digitized. In 1906, the contents of the manuscript were published by the Cantilupe Society, transcribed by Robert George Griffiths with an introduction by William Wolfe Capes, a known Hereford scholar. This was published in two volumes, each containing Latin transcriptions of the original documents with added headings in English. The heading of the different documents have been translated into modern English while the content of the documents itself remains in the original Latin. The first of the two books also includes a biography of Bishop Thomas and his itinerary before the register is presented. The modern document can be found on HathiTrust and on the National Archives website.
