Description
The Register of Wolstan de Bransford, Bishop of Worcester, is a collection of 1568 documents pertaining to Bransford’s as bishop of Worcester from 1339-1349. The register is bound in two volumes, fifteen quires total, which are separately foliated. The first volume has four sections: the record of bishop’s consecration and enthronement followed by memoranda such as commissions, licenses and letters dimissory; institutions, licenses and appropriations; ordinations; and royal writs. The second volume of the year 1349 contains memoranda, institutions, ordinations, court of audience proceedings and royal writs. The documents are kept by the Hereford and Worcester Record Office under HWRO b716.093-BA.2648/3(i), and have not been digitized.
The documents have been transcribed and summarized in an edition written by Roy Martin Haines, a British historian and professor of medieval history. Haines’ edition was published by Her Majesty’s Stationery Office in 1966, and is now available digitally and in the public domain. It is a collection of various types of documents translated and transcribed into print, plus an appendix with documents transcribed in the original Latin. In the appendix tables, documents are categorized by type/specific instance, date and place, names, supplemental categorization information and edition numbers for the document.
